We want you to enjoy your camping holidays in Spain, so we provide helpful information to make sure you stay safe and legal while driving there. The guide below covers the essentials.
Equipment check
A spare set of bulbs is compulsory. All vehicles must carry two warning triangles, and they must be used in the event of an accident or breakdown, and outside built-up areas when a stationary vehicle is in a prohibited area.
A GB sticker is required unless it already appears on your number plate.
Headlamp converters are needed to stop headlights dazzling oncoming traffic.
A reflective jacket must be kept inside the car within reach and worn if you need to exit the vehicle outside built-up areas.
Documentation
A valid UK driving licence is acceptable. Older green licences may need replacing with a photocard version or supported by an International Driving Permit. You must carry your motor insurance certificate, hire car documents (if applicable), and photo ID such as a passport. The minimum driving age in Spain is 18.
Breakdowns
The Real Automóvil Club de España (RACE) works with local clubs throughout the country. Using a warning triangle during a breakdown or accident is compulsory and failure to do so may result in a fine.
Accidents
Emergency services: 112. If you call the police after an accident, stay where you are until they arrive.
