Campsites in Languedoc-Roussillon

A French camping experience with a Catalan influence

Sharing borders with the Mediterranean Sea, the Midi-Pyrenees and the plains of the Massif Central, Languedoc (the Languedoc-Roussillon region) boasts an interestingly diverse landscape attracting families looking for camping holidays.

With almost 3,000 square kilometres of vineyards and producing over a third of France’s grape harvest, this is a region known internationally for its wine - the perfect place to work some tasting into your camping trip. It’s also the southernmost region of France and if you can tear yourselves away from the wine and cheese, you can experience some very fine mountains, beaches, forests and even the UNESCO city of Carcassonne.

Also sharing a border with the Catalonia region of Spain, camping in Languedoc gives visitors a camping holiday experience with some distinctly Catalan cultural overtones. We offer a very fine campsite in Languedoc.

Why Go Camping in Languedoc?

Peaks to Beaches

Holidaymakers to Languedoc will find traditional Catalan villages, pine forests, Mediterranean beaches and rolling vineyards spread across the region. Many Campsites in Argeles sur Mer offer direct access to the longest bathing beach in the Pyrenees Orientales region.

Towns and Villages accessible from the campsite

This region is home to some of southern France’s most attractive towns including Carcassonne, a wonderful fortified town that has been sympathetically preserved and is UNESCO protected. Tourists come to Carcassonne at night to see the medieval site lit up in all its glory.

The capital city of Languedoc-Roussillon, Montpellier, attracts visitors to see Les Jardin des Plants, Le Musee d’Anatomie and the Musee Fabre in the Old Town, while family campers with children will love Montpellier Zoo.

Eating in Languedoc

As a seaside area, locals in Languedoc enjoy seafood from the Mediterranean. Mussels and oysters feature heavily on the menu. Fresh produce like mushrooms, berries, honey, pates and goats cheeses are in plentiful supply.

For cheese loving campers, the famous Roquefort is available everywhere - but be careful, it can be addictive!

Festivals and Events

Throughout the year, Languedoc is host to festivals, fairs and entertaining events. April sees a medieval festival at Sommiers including fancy dress, markets and music. And if you book your Languedoc camping trip in July and August, you’ll enjoy weekly events including the Montpellier Danse festival and Water Jousting in Sete and Agde.

Travelling to our Languedoc campsite

Languedoc and Argeles sur Mer are served by four airports at Carcassonne, Perpignan, Montpellier and Beziers. Girona Airport, just across the border in Spain, is less than two hours drive.

Self-drive options from one of the channel ports are an alternative to flying in close to the campsite, with an overnight hotel en route presenting an extra opportunity to enjoy a different part of France for a short period.

Seeing Languedoc in style - for less!

For self-catering holidays in the Languedoc-Rousillon region, we think there’s nowhere better than Taxo Les Pins - our favourite local campsite.

And whilst Languedoc and Argeles sur Mer offer holidaymakers a broad range of options for their stay, we think that our ‘cottage style’ static mobile homes provide the best available balance. Our customer services team have stayed in our campsite mobile homes, so they offer personal experience of what your stay could be like.
